With a history going back to the 9th century BC, Kaunos is one of the region's most important ancient cities. Explore the great theatre, Roman baths, basilica and silted harbour; the view of the delta and Iztuzu from the hill is superb.
Cross the river from Dalyan by small rowing boat and walk a short way. Early morning or late afternoon is best to avoid the heat.
